DIY SKINCARE
When it comes to eye care, taking care of delicate and tender skin around the eyes is very crucial. As we grow older to our 30s signs of ageing become very visible around the eyes due its thin epidermis. Creating a consistent eye care routine can help a lot to reduce the appearance of fine lines, crow's feet and wrinkles.
These days, the market is flooded with many eye care products that contain retinol as an active ingredient. Retinol is a good active ingredient for tackling issues of skin ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles, though due to its high potency, it may cause allergic reactions, redness and even worse dryness.
I created this eye cream recipe, with idea in mind, to make this eye cream that is natural and deals with eye bags, dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles and crow's feet. Bakuchiol is a very good alternative for the eye cream that's why I use it in this recipe. It is more gentler than retinol and get the work done as well! So let's dive deep in this recipe, shall we?
SELECTING INGREDIENTS
Vegetable glycerin: It is a humectant and good moisturizing agent. When you add it into your recipe, vegetable glycerin can help to reduce puffiness around the eyes and discomfort that comes with it. But also it can address and combat skin dryness around the eyes. Skin dryness can worsen the eye skin area.
Distilled water: To avoid growth of microbiomes and impurities in your eye cream recipe, use distilled water. Tap water and even bottled drinking water can contain particles that may ruin your recipe. Tap water is the worst option to use since it contains lots of impurities and even microbiomes stuck in water pipes.
Bakuchiol oil: Is the best alternative to retinol. If you want to make a natural eye cream that is as strong as retinol eye creams sold on market, then bakuchiol is your hero! Bakuchiol oil has rejuvenating and anti-ageing properties that can help to improve the delicate skin under the eyes and improve the appearance of crow's feet.
Mango butter: This is an excipient, an ingredient that holds all the active ingredients and preservatives. It is an off-white expeller-pressed butter from seed kernels of mangoes. It has the smell of mangoes with anti-oxidants and essential fatty acids. Mango butter can help with skin regeneration, moisturization and softening the skin under the eyes.
Liquid lecithin: It is derived from the soybeans and brown in color. It acts as an emulsifier and increase shelf-life of the eye cream. Find a non-GMO(Genetically Modified Organism) soy-based lecithin wherever possible. This ensures the product is natural and safe.
Emulsifying wax: It is made from the fatty acids of plant fats. A better option will be emulsifying wax NF for this eye cream. This ingredients helps to bind water and water-based ingredients with oil and oil-based ingredients in your eye cream recipe.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin
1 tablespoon of distilled water
¾ teaspoon of bakuchiol oil
1 teaspoon of mango butter
1 teaspoon of liquid lecithin
½ teaspoon of emulsifying wax
Now here we go! Gather your ingredients and tools before beginning to make your bakuchiol oil eye cream recipe. Prepare your tools like two glass measuring cups, kitchen thermometer, saucepan, small glass mixing bowl and small sanitized container.
Instructions
Start by measuring your distilled water and vegetable glycerin, add into a glass measuring cup and submerge it in a saucepan on stove top with simmering water.
Next, measure your bakuchiol oil, mango butter, liquid lecithin and emulsifying wax and add them to another measuring cup and place it in another saucepan containing few inches of simmering water.
Wait till all mixtures reach a temperature of 160-170 Fahrenheit, at this point the butter and waxes would have melted. Remove both measuring cups from the saucepans of simmering water.
Take out your glass measuring cup containing oil/wax mixture and pour it to your glass mixing bowl and start mixing with the hand-held mixer, start at low speed and gradually increase to medium speed.
Next, carefully take out your other measuring cup containing distilled water and vegetable glycerin mixture and pour it into the mixing bowl and continue to mix for other five minutes.
Your eye cream should be ready at this point, pour your eye cream in a sanitized container and allow it to cool. Make sure your container is well-sanitized to avoid microbial growth, using a product with microbes may spell disaster.
Store in the refrigerator and use it within two weeks.
TIPS AND TRICKS TO GET RID OF PUFFINESS AND DARK CIRCLES
Make sure your face is clean before applying thin slices of chilled cucumber on the upper eyelids(you have to close your eyes 😚) and wait for like ten minutes before removing them.
Another quick tip is to make chamomile floral water and aloe vera gel infused ice cube. Prepare your mixture and freeze it in a ice cube tray.
After you are done making them, gently rub your ice cubes under the eyes to reduce dark circles and puffiness. If the ice is too chill for you, wrap it with a cheese cloth then rub under eyes don't forget about the upper eyelids.
HOW TO USE YOUR BAKUCHIOL EYE CREAM TO GET RID OF CROW'S FEET
Incorporate your eye cream in your skincare routine. Get your hands and fingertips clean and apply your eye cream thoroughly around the eyes.
Make sure your eye cream is absorbed into the skin under the eyes.
Within four weeks you will start to see optimal results, but also this means you'll make two batches of eye cream.
