In this blogpost learn to make your perfect homemade aloe vera&natural honey body wash for hydrating the skin. Now let's begin!
DIY SKINCARE
Body washes is one of the common product that we use in our everyday cleansing routine. Conventional store-bought body washes can be harsh to some people. I asked myself if there's any alternative out there that can get the job done without leaving your skin barrier compromised and dry. Instead embrace the natural body washes that can cleanse your skin, leaving it clean without causing other problems. Before jumping to our recipe, let's get to know the differences between store-bought conventional body washes and natural ones.
STORE-BOUGHT(TRADITIONAL) BODY WASHES VS NATURAL BODY WASHES.
Store-bought body washes especially cheap ones can be laden with harmful SLS, sulfates, artificial fragrances, preservatives and parabens that can be harmful not only to your body but also the environment too due to their non-biodegradable nature. Worse enough they can be endocrine disruptors and cause skin dryness and skin irritation
On the other hand, Natural body washes are are less harmful to the skin and the environment at large. Natural body washes use natural ingredients like botanicals, plant oils, plant extracts, essential oils and floral water that are well-scented, cleans your skin without compromising the its barrier. They are biodegradable, meaning they can decompose and be absorbed by the Earth's ecosystem. Remember natural body washes are less foamy, it can be disappointing if you like bubble shower.
SELECTING INGREDIENTS
Liquid Castile soap: This is the ultimate true soap made from saponification of plant oils unlike detergents and other synthetic cleansers. Liquid Castile soap is the base for this recipe. It is alkaline in nature and gets rid of grime and dirt really well. It is more gentler for the skin and can be used even for delicate skin types.
Water: In our recipe, we are going to use boiling water. Just get your water from the tap or buy bottled water. We don't need distilled water in this case, safe and clean water will go a long way. Just bring your water to boiling and you are good to go!
Aloe vera gel: Derived from the leaves of aloe vera plants are a perfect humectant for treating dry or dehydrated skin. Other skin types can also enjoy its benefits. In order to make our body wash hydrating then aloe vera gel act as a humectant, a substance that pulls water from deeper layers of the skin to the epidermis which also moisturizes and softens the skin even after you are done showering.
Honey: Also another humectant, honey has numerous benefits for the skin. It contains anti-oxidants and enzymes that can help to soften the skin as well as moisturizing and soothing the skin. It also has anti-microbial and anti-ageing properties for the benefits of the skin.
Tea tree essential oil: Recognized for its soothing properties, it is such a good choice if you want to have a well hydrated skin with a balanced pH. Its anti-bacterial properties can help balance skin microbiome ecosystem while at the same time help with acne.
Roman chamomile essential oil: This essential oil, I tend to find less harsh. It can be used by delicate skin type too. It has calming and soothing properties for the skin. But also it can be used as remedy for skin dryness, which is what we are addressing in the first place when making this body wash. Plus its sweet-smelling scent has an added benefit.
