SELECTING INGREDIENTS
Grapeseed oil: This is one of my favorite carrier oil. It is light in color and lightweight in nature. You can reap a lot of benefits from using it in this recipe. It is nourishing and moisturizing for the skin and lips too.
Jojoba oil: This oil first of all is hypoallergenic, meaning that it has less chance of causing allergic reactions. This carrier oil can hydrate and sooth your lips. But also soften your lips so that they may not crack or get chapped. Jojoba oil ha no strong scent with a much longer shelf-life(two years) which is good if you want your tinted lip gloss to stay for a log time.
Coconut oil: Get a fractionated coconut oil for neutral scent. Coconut oil can help to soothe and protect your lips. Plus coconut oil can reduce effects of harmful UV sun rays makes it a more better choice.
Shea butter: It is good at soothing dry or chapped lips it can be a good ingredient to include in your recipe. It can form a protective barrier on your lips ensuring maximum moisturization and hydration.
Candelilla wax: In this recipe, I stayed away from beeswax as far as possible, to make sure this recipe is not only all-natural but also vegan-friendly. A natural emollient, it has lots of essential fatty acids that can replenish your lips. It has occlusive properties that can help lock in moisture to avoid dry lips.
Hibiscus powder: Acts as a natural colorant in this recipe. It is an optional ingredient though your decision to use or not use it can make or break the desired end results that you may want. Derived from dried and ground hibiscus flowers, with a rich red color. Add more for a richer deep burgundy or add a pinch to get a hint of pink shade.
Pink mica: This is the only purely mineral-based ingredient. Mica can add a little bit of glitter don't overuse it. This ingredient though takes a small part of the recipe, will go a long way. Here less is more! This pink mica will complement well lighter shades of your lip gloss than richer burgundy. It will bring that shimmery effect we are looking for!
Vitamin E oil: It is known as tocopherol. It is not only act as a preservative but has numerous benefits such as fighting oxidative stress since vitamin E oil is an anti-oxidant. Vitamin E oil can soften and plump the lips. It can make the overall lip gloss shelf-life is increased.
Ingredients
2 tablespoon of grapeseed oil
1 tablespoon of jojoba oil
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1ยฝ teaspoon of shea butter
1ยฝ heaping teaspoon of candelilla wax
1 teaspoon of hibiscus powder
ยฝ teaspoon of pink mica powder
1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil
If you want darker shades of burgundy, go ahead and add more hibiscus powder. You can add or reduce amount of hibiscus powder to match your skin tone. Making tinted lip gloss with more hibiscus powder can produce deeper and richer shades that can complement darker skin tones while adding less hibiscus powder can create lightly tinted lip gloss to complement lighter skin tones.
Make sure to gather your ingredients and tools so that when you start making your recipe there is no wasting time or worse enough missing ingredients. Prepare your measuring cup, measuring spoons, saucepan and a kitchen thermometer.
Instructions
Begin by measuring your ingredients: grapeseed oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, shea butter and candelilla wax. Add them in a glass measuring cup.
Then place your saucepan with few inches of water and submerge your measuring cup into the saucepan.
Place your saucepan on stove top and turn on the heat. Wait till your candelilla wax is fully melted. When your mixture reaches 160 to 170 Fahrenheit at this point it'll be ready!
Now remove your mixture from heat.
Next step is to add vitamin E oil into the mixture and stir well till completely mixed.
This is an optional step but that's what sets apart your tinted lip gloss from the branded ones. Add your hibiscus powder depending om the shade you like, more for a deeper and richer color.
Add pink mica powder though even the silver mica powder won't disappoint at all. Mix well till all contents have uniform color.
Lastly, pour your mixture in a lip gloss container of your choice. Glass containers are a good choice, get cute small containers that you can find online.
