If you were thinking of making a bathroom treat then you've come to the right place. Make some fizzy bath bombs that can be calming and soothing at the same time. Let's make them so that you can enjoy your bath time ๐!
DIY SKINCARE
In your bathtub, it is always a good idea to have treatments that can sooth and calm you after a long day at work. My favorite one among many is bath bombs. Pop! pop! pop! It has become part of my self care treatment and skincare journey. Pair this with good music of your choice and essential oil infusion you will be set up for a refreshing moment before you go for dinner or to sleep.
That's why I thought to myself mmh, "This is such a good idea to share with others in my blog." So my writing about fizzy bath bombs. I hope you like them and use them as part of self pampering and self care. Now, Let's go!
SELECTING INGREDIENTS
Baking soda: This is the backbone of this whole recipe. Without baking soda there's no bath bombs! I can't find a substitute for this. It is also very cheap. I hope you already have it in your kitchen.
Citric acid: This is a white crystalline substance derived from citrus fruits like lemons. This is what gives the bath bombs their 'fizziness'. When citric acid is mixed with baking soda they react to form the 'bombs' explode when put in bathing water.
Epsom salts: It is also known as magnesium sulfate. Epsom salts are good at relieving stress when used as bath treatments. They make for a good bath soak. When buying Epsom salts for this recipe, aim for fine to medium grained salts for making good bath bombs.
Cumin seeds: You probably have this ingredient in your kitchen right now! It is filled with antioxidants but also I like the smell when cooked with it. I think you will like it in your bath bombs too!
Cloves: This spice contains both anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties that are good for your skin. Just crush them with a rolling pin so that you don't have them taking enough space in your bath bombs especially if you want to make small-sized ones.
Sweet almond oil: This oil is pretty affordable and you can easily be sourced out in local stores or online. It comes with golden color and sweet nutty aroma, as its name suggests. It is a good emollient for conditioning the skin, for all skin types.
Natural food color: You can get these as liquid, which will be easier to use especially in a recipe like this one. But don't worry even natural powder pigments can work too. Use a teaspoon only I think it will be enough though you can add or reduce the amount depending on the end result you desire.
Lavender essential oil: I thought to myself that lavender will be a good choice since I like its nice aroma. If you don't like lavender you can use another essential oil or essential oil blend of your liking. Don't use more than 60 drops for this recipe. I like lavender essential oil because of its antiseptic, antimicrobial properties but also improves your mood.
Vanilla extract: I guess you already have this in your kitchen. Right? Now, this combine with lavender essential oil can be a great idea.
That's all for the ingredients and their properties. Let's dive in, shall we?
Ingredients
1 cup of baking soda
half a cup of citric acid
half a cup of fine Epsom salts
1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
2 teaspoons of crushed cloves
2 teaspoons of sweet almond oil
2 drops of natural food color
60 drops of lavender essential oils
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
The secret for fizzy-ness of the bath bombs lies in citric acid and baking soda. These two ingredients are the ones that make the 'bombs' go pop! You can use other herbs like rosemary leaves if you can't find cloves. Just to keep you less concerned, it is optional to use natural food color and essential oils. Though this will mean your end product may miss things like a signature scent. But it is still okay especially if your skin is very sensitive.
You can use molds or repurpose your soap molds, if you got one or use ice trays, I'm you can't miss these in your home!
Instructions
Now gather all your dry ingredients: In this case, baking soda and Epsom salts then combine them. In this same step add your herbs, here I'm using cumin leaves and crushed cloves. Cloves don't come crushed when you buy them. Just make a little effort to crush them in pestle and mortar or use a rolling pin.
Slowly add your lavender essential oils and natural food color of your choice while mixing them altogether in mixing bowl.
Then add your sweet almond oil with citric acid. Slowly sprinkle your citric acid, you will start to notice the fizzing. Keep on stirring the ingredients to stop the ingredients from fizzing.
Once the ingredients can be easily clumped together to form into shape, press them into mold cavities of your choice.
Lastly, allow your beautiful bath bombs to dry for 3 to 4 hours before removing them in their molds.
HOW TO USE YOUR BATH BOMBS
Fill your bathtub with warm water and throw 2 to 3 bath bombs into the mix and get to see and enjoy the fizziness as you soak in your bathtub, playing good music and soothing after a long day at work!
CAUTION
Keep your bath bombs in an air-tight container in order to stop them from getting activated by moisture in the air and lose their fizziness.
You can only use this bath bombs within 4 months. Yeah, they got short shelf life, sadly! Good news you can make them again and again in different seasons of the year. You can also customize them into your liking and mood
