Perfume Balm
Perfume balm is simply a solid version of liquid and spray type perfume. This type of perfume though not popular nowadays before aerosol technology of packing perfume, perfumes in forms of resins, oils and balms have been used since antiquity. In this recipe we gonna simply use floral essential oils, some of them you might be having from other recipes you made in the past DIY projects, if you don't have you can buy them online, just look for the certified organic ones, those are most preferred for this recipe.
Top notes: This notes are the ones your nose sense when you open the perfume balm. Your top notes are in this perfume balm are lavender essential oil and ylang ylang essential oil. Lavender can be both top and middle tone too.
Heart notes: They are also called middle motes. They make a large percent of the perfume blend from 60 to 80%. You gonna use ginger lily CO and rose absolute.
Base notes: They make 5 to 20% of the perfume blend. These are usually very viscous, concentrated and thicker absolutes. Your base note are jasmine absolute and sandalwood essential oil. Jasmine could make a good middle note anyway.
After getting an insight of how the essential oils are layered in your perfume balm, now you can embark in the art of perfume blending and make your own today.
Selecting Ingredients
Sunflower seed oil: It is a perfect choice for perfume blending due to its bland odor. It is a good perfume diluent because of its neutral odor and stability more than other carrier oils with stronger nutty or fruity aroma.




Vegetable Glycerin: In this recipe, you're going to use glycerin to preserve the scent of the solid perfume balm. Apart from being used for this purpose you should not forget that glycerin is a good humectant. It will make your skin soft and moisturized when used on the perfume balm. In order to preserve our perfume balm's signature scent for a long time, it is good to add glycerin to our recipe.
Ylang ylang essential oil: Having a fruity floral scent to it ylang ylang is more than just that. It can help alleviate stress and anxiety as well as fight acne causing microbes. Including it in a perfume balm will also help to reduce pore size in general.




Sandalwood essential oil: Once native to Mysore, India, this essential oil comes from barks of sandalwood tree. It makes a good choice for base notes with its deep woody aroma. Sandalwood has healing and anti-inflammatory properties that are best suited for this recipe.
Lavender essential oil: A very common essential oil in DIY projects here, with many numerous benefits such as anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and mood improvement. Lavender is known for its sweet distinct floral aroma. It can be used for both top or middle notes though in this perfume balm it'll be top notes because of other overpowering middle notes included.


Rose absolute: Absolutes are very concentrated parts of plant extract. It has a very rich floral scent than can calm your nerves. Having it in your perfume balm will surely be very helpful indeed.


Jojoba oil: It is has a bland odor making it a good option to use when blending essential oils. A perfume blend should not be more than 10% in your chosen carrier. in this matter, its sunflower seed oil we are using.


Beeswax: This is your perfume balm base. Beeswax is very stable wax that can hold the essential oils and scent for many hours. Though feel free to indulge in other vegan waxes such as carnauba wax or calendilla wax when you're looking for substitute.


Jasmine absolute: Yet another floral aroma that is used in perfumery. It is known as an aphrodisiac as well as having abilities to combat the feelings of depression.




Ginger lily CO: Has a tropical floral aroma with ginger-like undertones to it. Has many benefits though you're looking for this base note right now, that's what you should be focusing on.
Ingredients
6 tablespoons of sunflower seed oil
2 teaspoons of candelilla wax flakes, carnauba wax pellets or grated beeswax
5 drops of glycerin
Ingredients for perfume blending per ounce
6 drops of ylang ylang essential oil
8 drops of sandalwood essential oil
8 drops of lavender essential oil
8 drops of rose absolute
6 drops of jasmine absolute
8 drops of ginger lily CO
1 tablespoon of jojoba oil
Prepare your tools such as dropper, teaspoons, tablespoons, a dark brown jar with a lid, small glass bowl, a metal case for storing your perfume balm and scent strips. Order online if you don't have these tools, avoid temptations of using your dropper from finished serum bottle, its already contaminated by now.


Instructions
Instructions for making perfume blend
Begin by preparing a perfume blend and leave it to mature for at least two weeks to 30 days the longer the better you can leave it for like 48 days too for better results. Let the perfume blend to age like fine wine! Let's get started!
Start by mixing your essential oils and absolutes altogether. Start with a few drops of essential oils and increase gradually with accordance to the metrics on the above section: ylang ylang, sandalwood, lavender essential oils and rose, ginger lily CO and jasmine absolutes with a dropper.
Add drop by drop into a glass bowl and swirl with a tablespoon.
Pour your perfume blend into a sterilized dark brown glass jar. A dark blue one can work too!
Store it in a cool and dark place for two weeks to 30 days or even a little bit longer for it to age. Aging and curing the perfume blend help it to mix well and for its scent to grow even stronger.
Instructions for making solid perfume balm
After aging the perfume blend in a desired timeframe of your choice, then follow these procedures to make your solid perfume balm:
As required begin by measuring your sunflower seed oil and grated beeswax or any other wax of your own choosing into a small glass bowl.
Put your glass heat-resistant bowl in a saucepan of simmering water till oil and wax have melted completely. Don't hasten the process by throwing this bowl to a microwave, Never!
Now remove your glass bowl from the simmering water and add your floral-scented perfume blend and stir well, you can use one chopstick, a toothpick to stir.
Add glycerin immediately, stir well again; help to preserve the scent of perfume balm.
Pour your perfume mixture into a small jar or metal case carefully. Wait for it to cool for use.
QUICK TIP: Got Vaseline? if you don't have any waxes available in your home don't worry, use unscented version of Vaseline instead.
How to Use Your Perfume Balm
Apply your solid perfume balm to the pulse points for it to last longer.
Store in a cool dry place with no light for it to have a longer shelf-life.
If you get inflammation, irritation, itching, redness or any other skin issue from using this product, please discontinue use.
