What Is Exfoliating Body Scrub?

When it comes to skincare routine, exfoliation is a very crucial process which can be done several times a week depending on your skin type. Body scrubs are one of the things that you can use to exfoliate your skin. Body scrubs can sloughs off dead skin cells and reveal a beautiful, glowing skin underneath.

You have to know for a fact that skin undergoes a cycle that involves skin shedding and skin renewal. When you're young, your skin cycle is less than 28 days. But as you grow older, the skin renewal and shedding process becomes slower thus making your skin appear duller. To deal with this issue one should exfoliate regularly.

Finding substance with abrasive properties, yet gentle to the skin, that can leave the skin smooth without causing bruises or micro tears is important when considering an ingredient for a body scrub.   • Pink salt: This is the main ingredient for this recipe. It is also known as Himalayan salt. Due to presence of trace minerals, it has a pink tint color from which its name is derived. It is mined in Pakistan within Himalayan mountains. Look for fine grade pink salt for making this scrub. It is not a very good option for sensitive and delicate skin types.   • Apricot kernel meal: It is one of the by-product of apricot processing. It has a light fruity aroma. It contains vitamins, protein and enzymes in high content. Choose a fine grade type which can exfoliate your skin gently but also nourish your skin with enzymes from apricot kernel meal.

  • Jojoba oil: It has a neutral odor with golden color. Jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory properties that can sooth and calm the skin. It makes the perfect combo with pink salt, as the skin get exfoliated with pink salt then jojoba oil repairs and control damage done by the abrasiveness of the salt.

  • Rice powder: Use fine rice powder to brighten skin complexion, reduce oiliness, cleanse and purify the skin pores. It is enriched with zinc and magnesium, which both can be beneficial for the skin.

  • Rose essential oil: Not only is known for its amazing smell but also it is a good choice which can be used to hydrate the skin, soothe inflamed or irritated skin and reduce skin redness. It will leave your skin feeling and smelling nice after you've washed your body scrub several hours later.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of pink salt

  • 1 tablespoon of rice powder

  • ⅔ (two-thirds) cup of jojoba oil

  • ½ cup of apricot kernel meal

  • 25 drops of rose essential oil

Get fine grade ingredient for this body scrub. Try to find high quality ingredients for a better body scrub experience. Look online and in department stores too, you will get the right ingredients for your recipe.

Now prepare your tools like a glass bowl, measuring spoons and a jar with a lid for storing your body scrub after preparing it. You can reuse a face moisturizer jar that you just finished its product.

Instructions:

  1. Gather your dry ingredients: pink salt, rice powder and apricot kernel meal. Measure out one cup of pink salt, a half cup of apricot kernel meal and one tablespoon of rice powder.

  2. Blend the dry ingredients together, in this step you can manually add them in a glass bowl and use a wooden spoon to mix all the ingredients together or you can use the second approach which is to use a blender for a more uniform mixing.

    TIP: You can preserve this dry blend in a tight lid jar and only add oils when you want to use it in your bath routine.

  3. Next add jojoba oil in your dry blend and thoroughly mix well together till well-blended to a paste.

  4. Now add your favorite essential oil or essential oil blend. In this recipe use rose essential oil because it smells good and very beneficial to the skin. Then add 25 drops of rose essential oil to the paste and mix again.

  5. Store the blend in a small, clean and sanitized jar with tight lid or any other designated container with a lid and put it in the refrigerator.

QICK TIP: If your recipe is too thick just add a little oil, if your recipe is too thin add more pink salt. Just add either of the ingredients to the recipe and see what consistency is right for you.

How To Use Your Exfoliating Body Scrub

  • Cleanse your skin with your favorite body wash or shower gel.

  • Then apply to damp skin, then rub it in circular motion to exfoliate the dead skin cells off your skin.

  • Wash it off with lukewarm water.

  • Use it once or twice a week for optimal results.

Caution

  • Don't overuse your body scrub as it can compromise your skin barrier.

  • Be careful when using it in the bathroom since it can get slippery from the oils in the body scrub.
